January 2020. Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Muamer Okanovic, born in 1992, is the young Imam of the Ferhadi mosque in Banja Luka. The mosque was rebuilt in 2010 after being blown up by the Serbs during the war, although there was no armed conflict in the city. The fifteen other mosques in the city were also blown up. Mr. Okanovic did his madtrassa in Tuzla and graduated in Oman. « The situation is better now than it was ten or fifteen years ago. » Banja Luka is the de facto capital of its Republika Srpska entity and was emptied out of most of his Muslim community during the war.
