July 30th 2022. Shcholkine, Russian-occupied Crimea. Locals gather on the town main square for the town anniversary. The shows and the authorities displayed vibrant Soviet nostalgia and the hope for a better future within Russia. Construction of the city started in 1978 around the Crimean Atomic Energy Station but the plant was summarily abandoned after inspection following the Chernobyl disaster of 1986, and the town lost many of its jobs and inhabitants.
