Azov Horizons – chapter III
Azov Horizons – chapter III
Over the summer 2022, for Chapter III of his « Azov Horizons » project, Patrick Wack travelled the entirety of the Russian coast of the Sea of Azov, from Taganrog - a port-city near the Ukrainian border - all the way down into Russian-occupied Crimea, and back.
This chapter follows last year’s Chapter II dedicated to the Ukrainian coast and cities such as Mariupol, which, we didn’t know at the time, would soon be engulfed by war and total annihilation.
This year’s chapter is a photographic study of the loss of meaning and ethical decadence within the Russian warmongering reality. Visual symptoms of the rampant fascism and propaganda are mirrored with mundane images of resorts and summer holidaying. The photographer’s relationship with Russia is still young and resembles a permanent attempt at understanding: the language, the people, the society, and its current nihilistic collapse. But that might be the point after all, non-sensical absurdity.
